Real Baby Shower: Yellow, Gray & Cho Cho Trains

Thursday, June 26, 2014

So... as you know I am already a sucker for yellow and gray baby showers. But throw in some choo choo trains on top of that and I'm SMITTEN. The very talented Dominique Albrecht of Bough&Annex threw this gorgeous baby shower to mirror the beautifully designed nursery -- with yellow and gray suitcases, burlap garlands, a bright and cheerful lemonade bar and postcards to welcome him home from his journey into the world. Enjoy!

From Dominique... I had such a great time putting on this gray and yellow train baby shower for sweet Duran and his gorgeous mama-to-be Jessica. A week before the shower, her grandmother passed away and we had to reschedule the event. I wanted to make this a time to display all of the love of family and friends she has in her life.

Because of a smaller, strict budget I had to do a lot of things in house, literally. The shower was hosted at my own home and I did a lot of the projects.

Jessica did an amazing job decorating Duran's nursery, all centered around grays, yellows and trains. I wanted to work right off of that fun theme when planning the shower. My first thought was what's more fun and bright than lemonade? Especially being in warm San Diego weather!

The Lemonade Bar was my favorite part of the shower. The table was draped in a nice natural cloth, I used some solid yellow wrapping paper in the middle of the table from Paper Source to break up the color and add a little extra protection under the drink dispensers. I draped the letter from twine "D" for Duran in the center of the paper. On the table was a pewter vintage train that Jess could add to Duran's nursery.

Over the table, I draped some greenery garland and added a "Lemonade" burlap banner to give the room a nice rustic feel.

On the table were mason jars that i wrapped with brown twine and attached a wooden tag too so guests could write their initials to keep track of their glasses. I added a sign from a gray frame I owned that said "Grab a glass, Add your initials, Its yours for the night". In each jar was a gray and white striped straw with a yellow flag made of washi tape that I cut myself.

I made 3 types of lemonade: Pink, Mint & Ginger, and my own "Vintage" blend which was traditional lemonade. Also, I cut up fresh strawberries and lemons and also had bowls of of blueberries, fresh mint and maraschino cherries for guests to add to their drinks.

My talented friend and best friend of the mom-to-be made the sweetest 2-tier rustic cake with fresh white hydrangeas adorning it. Each tier was a different flavor - chocolate and vanilla - with berry filling between the layers. It was incredible!

The cake and cake-stand were perched on top of a mini suit cases in yellow that I found at Land of Nod. Another pewter train was next to a white painted vase of more fresh white hydrangeas. Using a custom stamp, I stamped "Welcome Duran" onto all of the cake napkins and we used wooden forks, all arranged in another mini yellow suit case. The cake table was covered in some gray chevron burlap fabric that I found on sale at my local Joanne's fabric. More greenery and a burlap banner with "Duran" was draped over a mirror I used as the backdrop.

Each guest took home a little brown kraft bag filed with teabags, stamped with "Welcome Duran" and closed by a mini clothes pin.

Before they left, I asked everyone to send Duran a "postcard" to welcome him on his journey into the world. The little postcard were filled out and then dropped into a little gray suitcase for Jessica to take home and read.

We had such a great time and we are so looking forward to meeting sweet baby Duran!
